Don't think that you are the one producing the Name with your voice and tongue — that very thought is the tenth offense, ahaṁ-mamādi-paramo, "I am supreme." Śrīla Bhaktisiddhānta Sarasvatī Ṭhākura warned: may I never keep the company of one who picks up his japa mala the way one picks up the reins of a horse — climbs into the saddle and commands, come on, let's go. Picture that exact hand: fingers clenched on the reins, knuckles white, the horse obeying you. Now open them. Let the hand holding the beads stop steering — the jīva is meant to come under the control of the Name, not the Name under the control of your tongue.
