Don't assume that chanting the Holy Name already makes the critical mind harmless to you — this is the very hurdle where nearly everyone falls. Remember Śrīla Raghunātha Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī: when someone came to point out a devotee's fault, even a true one, he never let it enter his ears, but turned that same sharp eye on himself: "everyone is doing bhajan, except me." Set your beads down for a moment and ask: this gaze you measure others with — has it ever once turned back on you?
Catch a thought judging someone else, turn it back on yourself — return to the Name.
