"The devotee does not feel as if 'I am chanting, I am producing this sound', but he feels that this svarūpa-śakti is descending and manifesting in my senses and playing there. Bhakti is not something that you do — it's something that happens to you."
Try shifting your point of view behind the beads. Usually we feel: "I am chanting, I am making the effort." But in the mood of sākṣitva, the devotee is only a witness. He feels svarūpa-śakti descend and play in his senses, the Name itself dancing on the tongue. Bhakti is not what you do, but what happens to you when you stop getting in the way. Nāmakartā: the doer is the Name Itself.
Sit today as an astonished spectator: watch the Name dancing within you.
