"Recite a śloka which defines what is sādhya, the goal of life. … You can't make your own subjective hypothesis about what is the goal of life; all the discussion should be carried out by pramāṇa … they never speak independently of śāstra."
On the bank of the Godāvarī two met — Mahāprabhu and Rāya Rāmānanda. And the first thing Mahāprabhu asks is not "tell Me what you think about the goal of life," but "recite a verse." The difference is vast. Where the highest is concerned, my opinion weighs nothing: not "it seems to me," not "I feel" — but what scripture says. So the whole conversation opens: not as a clash of egos but verse by verse, pramāṇa by pramāṇa. Even great Rāmānanda answers not from himself — he cites the śāstra. And the right answer? Mahāprabhu does not hurry: we learn it on the next rung.
Ask the śāstra about the goal of life.
