One step above dāsya something opens that no other rasa has: equality. Gurudeva calls it viśrambha-bhāva, the confidential closeness whose mark is praṇaya, the feeling of oneness. In dāsya and in vātsalya love moves along two different channels: one loves from above, the other from below, and this is right. In sakhya both banks are the same — the viṣaya and the āśraya of rasa, the one who is loved and the one who loves, hold one and the same love. Two identical pots stand side by side, and the water in them is at one level.
