"Duryodhana was waiting for him already with his soldiers; they were prepared to tie Kṛṣṇa with these ties, but they couldn't tie him. … When mother Yaśodā wanted to tie him, at first she tied so many ropes together, but there are always two fingers too short."
Two hands pulled at that rope. One was power — ropes gathered, soldiers ready; the other, a mother's tired hand that keeps failing. To Duryodhana Kṛṣṇa showed the universal form; to Yaśodā He yielded. Not because her rope proved stronger: He Himself withdrew what made Him unbindable, having seen her sweat and her reddened face. What holds Kṛṣṇa is not the length of the rope but the love that wears itself out for His sake. In Vraja omnipotence steps aside when someone loves Him without regard for His being God.
What holds Him is the weariness of a loving hand.
